“Apollo”: Third piece in my “Muses” Series of Paintings

Apollo - Muses Collection

Here is the THIRD piece in my NEW SERIES of semi-abstract paintings. This one’s a bit different. Most of the paintings in my new “Muses” collection will incorporate the female figure in their underlying forms, whereas this one incorporates a male figure.

Because of that, and because the series is partly inspired by the stories of gods, goddesses and other deities from Greek mythology, I decided to call this painting “Apollo”.

Why did I choose Apollo and not one of the many other Greek gods? Well, in addition to being known as the god of practically everything – including but not limited to music, poetry, art, prophecy, truth, archery, plague and healing – he also was often accompanied by the nine Muses. So that’s the connection that appealed to me.

Image of 'Apollo': Semi-abstract painting rendered in white and red ink on a black background.

As with all of the paintings in this series, I created the underlying form with many, many THOUSANDS of white ink dots on heavy-duty black art paper and then applied splashes of scarlet over the white form to hopefully amp up the mystery and visual/emotional impact of the piece.

Another difference, is that the underlying form in this one is less disguised by the red “camouflage” than with the other pieces, which I believe is mainly because the muscles of the chest and abdomen are more discernible. But I think I like the fact that this gives a strong hint (if not totally giving the game away) at what are the components underlying the semi-abstractness of the collection.

Prints of this artwork, in various sizes, are now available in my online shop. ♥️
