“Erato”: First piece in my “Muses” Series of Paintings

Erato - Muses Collection

Here is the first piece in my NEW SERIES of semi-abstract paintings. The series is called “Muses”. I chose that name for a couple reasons. First, because I had these images floating around in my imagination for a long time and they really inspired me to start painting again.

Second, because the underlying forms of each painting remind me of the statues of gods, goddesses and other deities from Greek and Roman mythology.

I have called this particular painting “Erato”, who is the Muse of romance and poetry, specifically romantic poetry.

Image of 'Erato': Semi-abstract painting rendered in white and red ink on a black background.

The name, Erato, means lovely, and it is said that this muse had the ability to make all those inspired by her to be desirable and worthy of being loved.

The form of Erato was rendered by the meticulous, manual application of many THOUSANDS of white ink dots on heavy black art board.

I then applied splashes of scarlet to enhance the sensuality of the piece and also provide a kind of “camouflage” to disguise the underlying figure and hopefully induce you into exploring and having more of a dialogue with the painting.

Prints of this artwork, in various sizes, are now available in my online shop. ♥️
